RUST + WEBASSEMBLY / SVG

Power networks. In your browser.

Power generation, transmission towers, substations, and a city connected by power lines

From generation to transmission and distribution.

From substation wiring to transmission networks, GridRender turns power network data into diagrams. The visualization library and browser app automatically arrange equipment and connections and render them as SVG.

Move from network data to layout and exploration in one workspace. View diagrams beside source documents, adjust display options, and inspect connections with zoom, pan, and label corrections.

An independent Rust port of the Java diagram functionality from LF Energy’s PowSyBl project. WebAssembly generates diagrams in the browser, supporting power-data applications, HMI visualization, substation monitoring, and integration with existing systems.

BROWSER

Substation single-line diagrams

The SLD view automatically arranges busbars, breakers, transformers, and connecting lines. Explore voltage levels, substations, and zones with equipment symbols and labels. Captured from the running substation example in English.

BROWSER

Networks and automatic layout

NAD shows lines and transformer connections between voltage levels. Atlas2 and BasicForceLayout can recalculate the layout. The IEEE_14_bus capture displays sample data.

BROWSER

Diagram and source together

Choose Diagram, Source, or Split. The split view places input documents, configuration, generated SVG, and converted network documents beside the diagram, with syntax highlighting, search, copy, and download.

BROWSER

Controls and readable diagrams

Quick, Options, and Configuration expose display controls. Updates preserve zoom and pan while patching changed SVG DOM content. Viewer corrections adjust text size and label collisions; downloads retain the renderer’s original SVG.

Network data studio

Generate single-line and network diagrams from samples or imported documents. The current demo lists XIIDM/XML, JIIDM/JSON, MATPOWER, and IEEE CDF import and export, distinguishing format coverage. This capture shows the generated default sample.

Technology and current scope.

A Rust 2021 Cargo workspace separates the network model, single-line diagrams, network diagrams, shared layout utilities, and WASM bindings. The declared minimum is Rust 1.80. wasm-pack builds WebAssembly and JavaScript bindings for the browser.

The browser application uses HTML, CSS, and JavaScript modules, with Web Workers for rendering requests. Node.js and npm run the development server and checks. Built output runs from an HTTP static server without a Java or Cargo process at runtime.

Rust/WASM handles layout and SVG generation. The browser’s display layer manages zoom, pan, viewport text sizing, and label adjustment. Partial SVG DOM updates optimize presentation; the engine currently still computes a complete SVG.

The current demo visualizes local input documents and samples. Connecting to live state from a Java backend is planned. The intended boundary assigns business logic, authoritative state, and electrical analysis to the backend, with Rust/WASM responsible for visualization.

Persistent WASM sessions for ordered real-time deltas and WebSocket/SSE transport are future work. Current SVG display updates are distinct from a live operational data connection. Document formats are also being expanded by implemented direction.

The Rust renderer and PowSyBl-derived resources remain under MPL-2.0; independently authored SimpleCORE browser application files have a separate SCL-1.0 scope. The demo’s license documents explain the terms and source availability. This is not an endorsed or certified PowSyBl or LF Energy product.
